Why We’re Here
About P4A
Petalumans for Accountability (P4A) is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that works to promote improved transparency and accountability in the Petaluma city government. This is an ongoing effort to ensure taxpayers and the community always have the necessary insight and a voice in the management and future of our beloved city.
Our Findings
In June 2023, the Sonoma County Grand Jury released a report in which it found a lack of transparency and accountability in the longtime contractual relationship with the outsourced for-profit M-Group planning firm. The city’s response was dismissive, dishonest, and further proved its unwillingness to be transparent and held accountable.
In our public records requests and other research, we found that the contractually required cost-benefit analyses and performance reviews were never performed in the 14- year relationship with the M-Group.
The only analysis ever performed was in response to the Grand Jury report, but that report was riddled with bad and misleading data.
This is one current issue we are working to resolve and an example of where P4A hopes to support our community by demanding transparency and accountability from our city staff, consultants, and elected officials.
